Our Goals
In 2011 the American Boxing Association was formed to promote the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act which calls for an organization to protect the rights and welfare of boxers, aid state boxing commissions with the oversight of boxing, and increase sportsmanship and integrity within the boxing industry. This American Boxing Association would act as a league to ensure the protection of the boxers by acting as, “a buffer between the promoters, managers, and boxers”. This governing body would create an independent rating system based on a record of wins and losses and free of manipulation by those in charge. This would create open competition for promoters to enhance the integrity of the sport by enforcing national contract reform. The sanctioning body should protect professional boxers from unlawful contracts that are not in their best interest or restrict their right to control their own destiny. The American Boxing Association will award one definitive National Title Belt and encourage the consolidation of separate organizations into a united entity in order to prevent the dilution of the prestige of the American Boxing Champion.

THE HAND SHAKE: "THE GALVESTON GIANT & "THE BOSTON STRONG MAN"
This photo features two American World Champions that made boxing the sport it is today. On the left John Sullivan , also known as the "Boston Strong Boy", was the first boxing superstar and one of the world's highest-paid athletes of his era. Newspaper coverage of his career, with latest accounts of his championship fights often appeared in the headlines, and as cover stories, gave birth for the sports journalism in the United States and set the pattern internationally for covering boxing events in media, and photo documenting the prizefights.
On the right is Jack Johnson who became the first African American world heavyweight boxing champion at the height of the Jim Crow era. Johnson was the most dominant boxer on earth for more than thirteen years. His fight in 1910, in which he defeated James J. Jeffries , was dubbed the "fight of the century". Jack Johnson transcended boxing by becoming part of the culture and the history of segregation in America.

At the top of the list is Terence Crawford, a 40-year-old welterweight from Omaha, Nebraska, who boasts an impressive record of 36 wins and no losses or draws.
Following closely is Gervonta Davis, a 29-year-old lightweight from Baltimore, Maryland, who also has an unblemished record of 29 wins.
Devin Haney, a 31-year-old super lightweight from Las Vegas, Nevada, holds the third spot with 25 wins.
David Benavidez, a 27-year-old super middleweight also from Las Vegas, Nevada, ranks fourth with 28 wins.
Shakur Stevenson, a 26-year-old lightweight from Houston, Texas, rounds out the top five with 21 wins.
Other notable fighters include O’Shaquie Foster, a super featherweight from Houston, Texas, with 22 wins and 2 losses, and Teofimo Lopez, a super lightweight from Las Vegas, Nevada, with 20 wins and 1 loss.
The list also features up-and-coming fighters like Jesse Rodriguez, a 24-year-old flyweight from San Antonio, Texas, with 19 wins, and Mario Barrios, a 28-year-old welterweight also from San Antonio, Texas, with 28 wins and 2 losses.

What is the American Dream? We as Americans paraphrase our rights from our Constitution, by generally referring to the “American Dream” as Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. American boxers have been striving for this dream in America for centuries; since the days of bare-knuckled brawling for change, through this modern era of Pay Per View (PPV) fights with millions of dollars at stake. Now, there is an organization and a belt created to celebrate the American fighter and the American Dream. Meet the American Boxing Association (ABA).
The ABA is the brainchild of president and founder, Dean Smith, of Dean Smith Productions. Dean was born in Ireland, the son and grandson of prizefighters. Dean Smith developed a love for boxing at an early age, which has continued throughout his life today. Being familiar with the boxing scene in Great Britain, Dean Smith is struck by the passion and national pride in which fighters overseas fight for and defend those belts that represent their national heritage.
Why is there a British Championship, but not an American Championship? As Dean Smith says:
“America is the greatest country in the world, there should be an American Championship belt.”
Patterned in the tradition of the Irish National Title Britain Title and every other country in the World The ABA will offer its belt in all of the different recognized weight classes.
However, the most unique aspect of the ABA lies in the fact that it will only sanction title fights between American citizens. This factor distinguishes the ABA from the other countless title belts and organizations. Once a fighter establishes his American citizenship, and showcases a worthy resume which meets the ABA standards, he can fight for the most American of belts- The American Boxing Association Championship.
